Govt Shutdown...

AVERTED!

I kind of figured it would be, but it still made me take a hard look at some things. I'm completely naive when it comes to politics and need most issues explained to me. Why? Because it bores me and I have no interest in following. Until I heard that my airman might not be getting paid for a while! Pretty sure I had to pick my heart up off the floor. After all, we live off of his income alone while I'm working my way through nursing school. A mortgage, two cars, electricity, gas, and the list keeps going on of bills!

All this hub-bub opened my eyes up a bit. Not to politics, but to money saving! So with my airman intact, off we went today to lower our Cox bill (saves us about 60-70 dollars a month)! As well as canceling a few other un-necessities we have.

I also have been watching Extreme Couponing on TLC! Amazing how much these ladies can save when they really dedicate time to couponing. I think I will try it this weekend starting with the Sunday paper for some clippings I can get my hands on. I doubt I will ever get as extreme as the ladies in the tv series, after all I don't have 5 or 6 mouths to feed and definetely don't have the extra space to store food like they do. (buying in bulk!)

But alas, I'm quite relieved to know I won't have to be living off ramen noodles anytime soon! And I've come up with some money saving ideas to help us save $200 a month so far. Not to mention, Ron paid off the Jared's bill (engagement ring), so there's an extra $250 a month as well, for a total extra $450 a month! yay!

  1. Wow, that sounds really tough:O This might sound weird but a few months ago my parents canceled our tv cable. At first we were all like, "Omygosh! There's nothing to do! I'm so bored!" We are now on the "basic" cable so we have like 20 channels and they're all like really boring and old people kinda shows (except for game shows and the middle, that's pretty cool) Anywho (where was i?), after a while we found that we could do a lot more than just sit on our butts all day...plus our cable bill went down a bunch! BONUS! See you in bloggie land!

  5. I'm so glad they didn't go through with it. My friend's hubby planned a surprise trip there, because she loves Monuments. They are going next week, and it was all booked, signed stamped delivered, haha. I was praying they wouldn't shutdown just for them.

I so have to budget!!!! eeeek :)

  7. I love saving money especially when it's as easy as one phone call. I saved 40 bucks just with a 5 minute phone call with AT&T! Just wanted to let you know that I linked you on my blog http://withlovelydia.blogspot.com/2011/04/youre-it.html
